Since the closing of the Great Movie Ride in 2017, Disney fans have been eagerly awaiting the opening of its replacement: Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway. This is the very first ride-through attraction for Mickey and Minnie and is scheduled to open next week on March 4th, 2020. The marquee itself, which was unveiled about a month ago containing numerous blinking bulbs with animated neon depictions of Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse, is sure to delight Disney fans of all ages. The new FastPass+ and Standby line signage has now also been revealed and looks equally as amazing. I have a feeling we are in for a real treat next week.
Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway is in the Chinese Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Guests will be going to see the world premiere of Mickey and Minnie’s latest cartoon short “Perfect Picnic.” The theater itself houses a magic portal through which guests will surge directly into the cartoon world.
Disney has this to say about its special upcoming ride:
“The darling duo are taking a leisurely drive to a picnic in their sporty roadster—with Engineer Goofy’s train following merrily along. Plot twist—you get to go, too! Climb aboard a runaway railway and embark on a whirlwind ride through a world where the rules of physics don’t apply. Prepare for unexpected twists, slapstick gags and mind-boggling transformations at every turn, as Mickey and Minnie try to save the day. There’s no telling where this train is heading! This is an adventure for Mickey and Minnie fans of all ages.”
Fun Fact: Mickey and Minnie actually have a history at the famed Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, California. The Mickey Mouse cartoon “Mickey Steps Out,” was screened at the Chinese Theatre in 1931.
FastPass+ reservations for Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway became available on February 6th, 2020 and has joined the Tier 1 level of FastPass+, alongside Slinky Dog Dash, and the most recent addition: Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. Guests are able to pre-select one of these attractions as a FastPass+ reservation in advance of their visit to the park.
Tier 2 includes Toy Story Mania!, Alien Swirling Saucers, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith, Star Tours: The Adventures Continue, Voyage of the Little Mermaid, Disney Junior Dance Party!, For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration, Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular, Muppet*Vision 3D, Fantasmic!, Beauty and the Beast – Live on Stage. Guests are be able to pre-select two of these attractions as a FastPass+ reservation in advance of their visit to the park. (If the Tier 1 options are unavailable, guests may choose from any three options in Tier 2.)
